• The Real's Tamera Mowry-Housley opened up on October 17 about how she and her twin sister, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, went to sibling therapy to learn to effectively communicate.
  • In the episode, the mother-of-two shared that growing up in a religious household, she felt there was a stigma around going to therapy—but "I believe God created humans and humans created therapy. Thank God for that!”

If you were one of the folks who watched Tia and Tamera, the reality show that aired from 2011 to 2013 starring, yep, Tia Mowry-Hardrict and her twin Tamera Mowry-Housley, you may not be surprised to learn that the 41-year-old sisters haven't always gotten along. Despite what the 90s sitcom Sister, Sister may have implied, the two real life humans have, in fact, had arguments because—well, family. And on an episode of their reality show entitled "Failure to Communicate," we got to see them going to a therapist together.

As a refresher—in case you blinked in 2012 and missed the pivotal message they were trying to impart about the de-stigmatization of mental health counseling—Tamera recently explained on The Real what they learned in that episode.

"Obviously it worked out great. But I will say this: Sometimes growing up in a religious household, sometimes therapy is seen as a weakness. Like you shouldn’t go to therapy to get it together, you should go to God, and if you were closer to God, you wouldn’t be having this issue. But the reality is, I believe God created humans and humans created therapy. Thank God for that!”

She went to explain that she and the Tia Mowry's Quick Fix vlogger sought professional help as siblings "because we were so different and we needed to learn how to communicate in a way that was positive for both of us. I’m very sensitive, as the world knows, and my sister is very assertive, and she can handle herself, but we had to learn how to communicate properly with each other.”

Although they are now as close as...twins (“That girl is my best friend. I love that girl!” Mowry-Housley assured fans of The Real), she did mention that she's had to rein in talking about her family since joining the daytime show. "I learned kind of like the hard way..." Mowry-Housley shared. “Because obviously we talk about our personal lives, so the first season, I got lots of phone calls from my mom, my dad, my sister...‘What’re you talking about? What’re you talking about?'”

Mowry-Housley explained, “I've learned not to say anything that they can't defend themselves in the moment if they're not here. So now I know my limitations.” Frankly, those are words we can all live by—or as the old adage goes, "If you can't say it to someone's face, don't say it at all."
